The second day of the Architectural Modeling J-term allowed us to build on the knowledge we acquired from yesterday's research. It took us on an exploration of global inspirations and the local skyline, creating an abundance of inspiration to draw from.

We started the morning with our routine Building of the Day presentation by Eleanor, who told us about the architecture of Jaipur, India. This area is often called "The Pink City" in reference to its iconic bright coral infrastructure. The extravagant and meticulously decorated entrance gates are a key landmark of the city, and explore the connection between culture, religion, and art.

With our new perspective and appreciation for the symbolism of architecture, we ventured downtown to view our own momentous buildings. We spent the rest of the morning traversing through tunnels and skywalks between famous historical sites such as the towering TC Energy Center and the 100-year-old Julia B. Ideson Library. As we journeyed across the center, we took many reference pictures and reflected on the diverse collection of architectural styles. We said our final goodbye to downtown with a dazzling view of the skyline from Buffalo Bayou Park.

The pictures we took in the morning acted as our inspiration for the afternoon sketching. We practiced illustrating various buildings, perspectives, and lighting. This activity is crucial for developing our design process for future construction.

The second day of our Architecture J-term taught us to view buildings with a newfound appreciation. We learned about both the practical and cultural value of infrastructure, and we look forward to applying this insight to our individual projects later in the term.
